Steps

Current fees associated with accreditation:

1. Application (includes one program): $2,660
2. Additional fee per program: $530
3. Self-Study Report (review and approval process, per program): $225
4. Visit Fee to be paid prior to Visit (includes one program): $1,900
5. Additional fee per program: $200
6. Charge for each off-campus location to be visited: $200
7. Deposit for team travel expenses: $3,000
8. Interim Report Fee (not involving a visit): $350

(Reconciliation of deposit will be determined after submission of all expense reports and reimbursement to team members through AABI. Adjustment and reconciliation may result in refund or additional charge to host institution.)

Institution will be invoiced for actual expenses of visiting team to include an honorarium for each team member ($200 for team chairs; $150 for AABI members; $100 for non-members). A team consists of 4-5 members. Travel expense per team member, including the $100 honorarium, averages approximately $800 to $1000.

The goals of AABI are to stimulate aviation program excellence and self-improvement; establish uniform minimum educational quality standards; and increase the credibility, integrity and acceptance of collegiate aviation programs within institutions of higher education and all aspects of the aviation community, to include industry and government.

In order to apply for accreditation, the first step is to join AABI as an educator member. Membership fees are $900 (US) for non-accredited educator members. The next step is to submit an application. The application and supporting materials (including copies of the school catalog) address the general background of the institution with specific responses aimed at the appropriateness of the aviation program to be accredited. Each program seeking accreditation should have completed at least one full cycle and have graduated at least one class.
